Nothing, Everything (1)

2 Samuel 9:1-13; Luke 7:36-50 (Part 1) —How can we be a people known for grace? We deserve nothing, but our Heavenly Father gave us everything. He calls us to give everything to the person before us who deserve nothing. God gave grace freely to us. Living out grace we give to others what God gave us.

“I Forgive You. I Welcome You.” (2)

James 5:13-16; Luke 15:1-32 (Part 2) — Are sinners, are the lost welcome in our church? How do we respond to them? Like the Jewish religious leaders? Like the older son? When we confess and repent, God forgives us. Because of His Son Jesus Christ, God the Father welcomes us and seals his marvelous, undeserved forgiveness with celebration. We live out grace when we imitate and give that same kind of forgiveness to others, welcome them with love and open arms, and celebrate with joy.

"I Cover You"

Genesis 2:25-3:24 — When we disobey God and sin we hide in fear. We try to cover up our shame and guilt. But God seeks us and finds us. He covers our shame with the robe of Christ’s righteousness. Living in grace we can stand again naked and unashamed before God and others. Living out grace we cover others with the love and forgiveness of Christ that we have received. In Christ, we now live unashamed.

John 7:53-8:11 — Truth and grace always go together. When we face our truth before God and others, confess and repent, we experience grace and forgiveness that sets us free. Jesus does not condemn us. We experience grace that transforms our lives so that we sin no more. A culture of grace is a culture of truth.

We have experienced and stand in God’s grace. We are living in grace. We are called to live out grace in order to build up the Body of Christ until we all reach full maturity in Christ. We are called to be a people of grace, to create a safe place to which people can come as they are, a safe place where all feel free and safe to be themselves as we journey together to know Jesus and learn together how to follow Him.

Let God’s Love Overflow through Us

Romans 5:1-5 — How should God’s people respond to what is happening? Love! God’s love, that has been poured out into our hearts abundantly and without limit, should overflow through us to the world. Our calling is to be true image-bearers, true reflections of God to the world by letting his love flow through us into the world and to others. We are in a time of testing. Will we fail the test by being like the world, or will we be faithful and love others as God loves us?
