What Child Is This?

December 25, 2022

Isaiah 7:1-14; 9:2-7 & Matthew 1:18-25 — What child is this? This child is Jesus the Christ. Jesus is God with us. He is God for us and saves us. Jesus is God over us. He is our Lord and Savior, our only hope. How do you answer the question, what child is this? Who is this Child for you?

This sermon is based upon and adapted from the sermons by Juan Sanches & Jeremy Mckeen, see PreachingToday.com.

God's Love Is Here

December 18, 2022

Malachi 2:17-3:7 — God’s love has come, is here and present with us, and is coming. His love is fierce and fiery like a fire. God’s love is a refining fire that purifies his people. His love is also a consuming fire that comes in judgment on sin, evil, unbelievers, and the unfaithful. God’s love does not change but is patient and merciful as He calls us to return to Him and He will return to us.

This is part of our Advent series Love Is Here. With the advent of Christ, God’s love came to us and is now here and present with us. God’s love saved us. We are called to bring His love to others and make His love here and present for others. With the second coming of Christ, God’s love will be fulfilled, made perfect, and will be here and present with us forever in his new creation.

Our Advent series for 2022 is adapted from and based on the study, A Look at Advent through the Old Testament, by Matt Woodley and Kelly White as well as Matt Woodley’s Advent series sermons based on the same study, see PreachingToday.com.

Zephaniah 3:14-20 — We rejoice in what God has done for us. We have confidence in and rejoice in what God will do for us. God has done something in Jesus Christ that changes everything. Love Is Here In Peace

December 4, 2022

Micah 4:3-4; 5:1-5 — God’s love is here and present in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. He brought the shalom, peace, of God’s kingdom into the world. When He returns, He will establish that peace fully and completely. He is the Good Shepherd who guides us into this peace, cares for us, and gives us his peace. He calls us to be his peace bearers and peacemakers in this world.

Consider All Loss To Gain Christ & Life

August 22, 2021

Philippians 3:7-11 — Consider all worldly gains, everything, a loss so that we can gain Christ and life. We consider all these a loss for the sake of Christ, so that we may gain Him, be found in Him, know Him fully, know the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings so that we can gain the new, eternal life in Him.

This is part of our sermon series, Rejoice in the Lord Always, in which we will be walking through Paul’s letter to the Philippians. For this whole sermon series, I acknowledge and credit the following sources and authors that informed my sermons and whose ideas I sometimes used or adapted: Peter Thomas O’Brien, The Epistle to the Philippians: A Commentary on the Greek Text, New International Greek Testament Commentary (Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1991). Boast in the Lord Alone

August 8, 2021

Philippians 3:1-6 — Watch out. Beware of false teachings that add extra requirements and legalistic conditions to faith in Christ alone. We must not put our confidence and trust in worldly achievements, gains, and profits, everything. We should consider all of these loss to gain Christ. We should boast in Christ Jesus alone. The things of this world pale in comparison to our Lord, the new life, and the joy we have in him. The joy of the Lord is our strength. We should rejoice in the Lord always.

Be Examples of Humble Service & Love

August 1, 2021

Philippians 2:19-30 — Like Timothy and Epaphroditus we should have the mind of Christ and be examples of selfless service in love and humility and humble obedience to God, willing to take risks and suffer for the work of Christ. That is how we are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in this world.

Work Out Our Salvation & Shine Like Stars

July 25, 2021

Philippians 2:12-18 — We must continue to work out our salvation so that we will be the light of the world. We must contend for our faith, the gospel of Christ, our spiritual growth in Christ, and his kingdom. We contend by holding firmly to the Word of life, doing everything without grumbling or arguing, serving others, and rejoicing in the Lord always. We work out our salvation in awe because God is at work in us, and He enables us to do so.
