“You Will Be My Witnesses”

Acts 1:1-11 — This begins our new series on the book of Acts. It will explore the themes: What is Christianity? What is the Christian Church? What is Christian? What is the mission of the church and every believer? The book of Acts is about the acts of the risen Christ through the Holy Spirit working through the Church. Christianity is not a philosophy, ideology, or moral teachings. Christianity is about this person, the Lord Jesus Christ, who came to earth, lived, was crucified, died, was resurrected from the dead, and ascended to heaven where He now rules at the right hand of God the Father. This person, Jesus Christ, continues his kingdom work from heaven through the Holy Spirit, who empowers his followers to be his witnesses. Christian is the name of Jesus’ followers. They are his witnesses, proclaiming Jesus Christ and his resurrection, preaching the gospel of his kingdom in word and deed wherever they are, live, and go. Acts 28 is not the end, but it’s open-ended because Jesus Christ continues to act through the Spirit through his church in the world. Acts 29 has been happening during the last 2,000 years, and Acts 29 is still being written now as our Lord continues to act through his Church, the Christians who carry his Name and are his witnesses to the ends of the earth. Thus, we are the Acts 29 family. Being Christian, being followers of Jesus, and being his witnesses, that is our DNA.

Reawakening to the Return of Christ

Mark 13:3-13; Luke 12:35-48 — We look to the future with the certain hope of Christ’s return. He’s coming again! We will see Him and be with Him to experience His glory in a way we never have before. All of the things that are wrong with this world will be righted and Jesus will reign forever! Are we ready for His return? Are we living our lives as if He can return any moment of any day?

Reawakening to the Mission of Christ

Luke 14:15-23 — Jesus has called us to live on mission with Him in this world, to continue his ministry of restoring and introducing His Kingdom to all peoples, and to invite them to God’s eternal feast. He sends us to be His witnesses and to go and make disciples of all peoples. He defines and assigns the mission we are to carry out. May we carry it out in obedience and dependence!

Preach Christ Boldly Without Fear

June 13, 2021

Philippians 1:12-18a — We are called to proclaim Christ boldly and fearlessly in all circumstances. God uses all circumstances to advance the gospel for his kingdom and glory, even when we cannot see how or don’t have any hope. We are called to preach Christ crucified and risen for our salvation. We should do so with true and sincere motives, not out of selfish ambitions.

God’s Unfinished Story & Alliance Missions

February 7, 2021

Acts 13-15 — People are lost without Jesus. Until our Lord comes back, God invites us to join His unfinished mission, the Great Commission to make disciples of all people. There are many unfinished stories. Through the Alliance missions we join those stories, and we join God’s unfinished story, His unfinished mission. What joy and a privilege!
