Die to Live

March 8, 2020

Mark 8:31-38 — Die in order to live. Die to self to save self. To have life we must deny self, take up our crosses and follow Jesus. We cannot save ourselves. Nothing in the world can save us. Only the Cross! We must bring all of and everything in our lives under the rule of Jesus Christ. We must say no to being the lords and bosses of our own lives, and make Jesus Lord of our lives. We must not disown or be ashamed of Jesus, but stand up and speak out for Him, even if that leads to death because we will live with Him forever.

This is part of our Lent 2020 sermon series called Take Up Your Cross.

Say No! Say Yes!

Matthew 3:16-4:11 — We are called to take up our crosses, and follow Jesus and his example. Like Jesus we must say no to self, self-gratification, physical comfort, self-acclaim, power, worldly empires, earthly treasures, doubt, and our idols, and yes to self-denial, self-sacrifice, humility, faith, powerlessness, suffering, persecution, and yes to God and his kingdom.

This is part of our Lent 2020 sermon series called Take Up Your Cross.

The Battle is the Lord’s

February 23, 2020

2 Chronicles 20:1-30 — How big is your God? What determines the size of your faith? What do you do when you face impossible situations? Do we focus on the problem and ourselves? Do we fall back on our own devices, plans, resources, and strength? Or, do we focus on God? We must set our eyes on God, and not the problem, because the battle is the Lord’s. We pray, fast, worship and praise God. We do not fear. We are not discouraged. We believe. We step out in faith. We take our position, stand firm, and watch God do his kingdom work.

True Disciples Bear Kingdom Fruit

Matthew 7:15-20 — At the end of his sermon Jesus presents the two gates, the two ways, two kingdoms. There is a choice to be made. There are only two gates and two ways. There is no middle road. There is no compromise. There is no sitting on the fence. Which way is it going to be, the kingdom of Satan or the kingdom of God, the prevailing world culture, or the Christian counter-culture? There is only one gate and way to enter into and to live in God’s kingdom.

This is part of our series, Living the Kingdom Life, based on the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7.
