Prayer as Kingdom Partnership

January 8, 2023

Matthew 6:10 — God’s kingdom is where God the King rules. The kingdom is God in action, acting in world history to bring about his reign. His kingdom has come into the world in and through Jesus Christ. His kingdom will come and be consummated when Jesus returns. In this interim time, here and now, God’s kingdom comes in and through his people. We participate with Him in the coming of his kingdom where we live, work, play, and worship. When and where we live the kingdom life, obey God’s will, there His kingdom comes, and his will is done on earth.

This is part of our sermon series for the 40 Days of Prayer, 2023. This year we focus on Prayer and follow the Lord’s Prayer in our sermon series. This is also based on the C&MA’s resources for the 40 Days of Prayer.

Prayer as Worship

January 1, 2023

Matthew 6:9 — Prayer is our invitation to commune with God Himself and begins as worship. By addressing our Father in heaven, we acknowledge His place in the world and our lives. We honor His name and His power. The spoken words to a loving heavenly Father are a testimony to His authority and divinity. We worship our Father when we acknowledge His rightful place on the throne, and we express our faith, confidence, and hope in a sovereign God when we make our requests known. To pray is to worship.

Malachi 2:17-3:7 — God’s love has come, is here and present with us, and is coming. His love is fierce and fiery like a fire. God’s love is a refining fire that purifies his people. His love is also a consuming fire that comes in judgment on sin, evil, unbelievers, and the unfaithful. God’s love does not change but is patient and merciful as He calls us to return to Him and He will return to us.

Love Is Here In Hope

Jeremiah 33:6-9,14-18— God’s love is here with us in hope, and that hope is powerful. We can face any situation and crisis because we live in hope. Our hope is based on God’s promises, the fulfillment of his promises in the past, and his unbreakable, eternal covenant with us. We know that a better future awaits us and that hope changes us in the present, changes who we are and how we live.
