“Surely the Lord Is in This Place”

December 5, 2021 - 2nd Sunday of Advent

Genesis 28:10-17; John 1:43-51 — When we think of Christ as God descending to us in our needs and ascending to lead us to the Father, we experience advents not only on Sunday but also during the week. Then we know that surely the Lord is in this place wherever we are.

This is part of our Advent series, The Bible, Our Book of Advents. This series is based upon and adapted from the sermon series by Dr. Dale A. Meyer, The Bible, Our Book of Advents: An Advent Sermon Series, (St. Louis, MO: Concordia Seminary Press, 2021).

Born, Born, Born to Living Hope!

Genesis 12:1-3; 18:1-15; John 8:48-58 — When you understand the Bible as a Book of Advents, of comings, especially birth announcements leading to the incarnation of the Son of God in whom we have been given new birth in baptism, then we gain a greater sense of the presence of God for a life of living hope.

Are You the One?

December 6, 2020

Second Sunday of Advent: Luke 7:18-35 — Are You the One? Is Jesus the One who has come and is coming back? In times like these it is easy to despair, doubt, give up, and even reject Jesus. But Jesus is the Lord God who has come to save the world and restore his kingdom. He rules and is at work. We just need to look, listen, pay attention, and we will see his work, miracles, salvation, healing, and rule in our lives and in the world. He is Lord. Jesus Christ is the One!

This sermon is also part of our series, Love Never Fails, Love Conquers All.
